In November 2023, I was delighted to join Bich Ngoc Olivia Nguyen on the SBS Vietnamese Radio show, Mái ấm gia đình, to talk about how we can build healthy relationships with our parents, as adults (xây dựng 'chiếc cầu' với con cái trưởng thành).

This interview was conducted in Vietnamese, so I’ll share some of the key themes we discussed below:

  • Common difficulties in Vietnamese families from differing expectations from parents and adult children

  • Vietnamese parents often show love through sacrifice, to give a ‘better life’ for their children

  • The first step to resolving conflict is actually about taking care of yourself

For any Vietnamese-speaking audiences, I would firstly like to say that I barely speak Vietnamese myself, so I apologise in advance if you’re listening to the radio interview :)

This topic is one that is close to my heart, and I was able to attend this interview with my mum coming along as a guest! Keep an eye out on the blogs, where I’ll share a bit more about this experience.
